Marketing in the USA
Queensland Cotton set up a marketing office in California in 1997 to establish the company as a year round supplier to our customers, and to benefit from the geographic spread, and natural quality hedge provided by SJV cotton. The acquisition of Anderson Clayton established Queensland Cotton as a major player in
Western USA cotton ginning and marketing business. From this base Queensland Cotton is now a major supplier of SJV Pima, SJV Acala and Cal/Arizona growths.
This year round supply of premium USA growths to our spinning mill customers complements our Australian and Brazilian cotton supply chain strategy and capabilities.
The cotton industry in Texas is going through a transformation thanks to new and improved varieties. The new FiberMax varieties developed from Australian
lines are raising the quality specifications and yield for the Texas crop. This has led to the emergence of Texas FiberMax as new premium US export
growth. Queensland Cotton anticipated this trend and established a regional office in Lubbock in 2004 and through our FiberMax Quality pools is now a
reliable supplier of premium Texas FiberMax cottons.
Our US head office is located in Fresno, California and there are field staff located in each major growing region. Marketing in California and Arizona is enhanced by our control of the supply chain as the company operates gins and warehouses in each of these growing regions. This provides the ability to move cotton much quicker than our competitors.
Queensland Cotton is responsible for the purchase and sale of approximately 10 percent of California’s Upland and Pima cotton for
export.
