History of Queensland Cotton
Established in 1921, Queensland Cotton is Australia’s oldest cotton ginning and marketing organisation. Queensland Cotton has its origins in the Australian Cotton Growing Association Limited, the British Australian Cotton Association and the Cotton Marketing Board. In May 1989, Queensland Cotton Holdings Limited was incorporated following deregulation of the Australian cotton industry and listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1992.
In 2007, Olam International Limited (“Olam”) acquired Queensland Cotton following which Queensland Cotton Holdings Limited was de-listed from the Australian Stock Exchange.
Olam is listed on the Singapore stock exchange and is a leading global supply chain manager and processor of agricultural products and food ingredients. Olam operates an integrated supply chain for 20 products in 64 countries, delivering these products to over 10,000 customers worldwide.
The Australian business continues to trade under the name of Queensland Cotton, a name which has been recognised over the years as a preferred supplier of premium quality cotton to the global textile markets.
Queensland Cotton employs approximate 200 permanent staff plus seasonal employees during the season. Our head office is located in Brisbane with regional offices located around Queensland, NSW and Victoria. With the diversification of our business, we have established a Grains office in Melbourne and Wool offices in Melbourne, Sydney and a number of regional sites in NSW and Victoria. The Orchards business (operated through Olam Orchards Australia) has its main office located in Melbourne.
