Mt Tyson Seeds - pulses from Queensland and New South WalesIn 2003, Queensland Cotton (now part of the Olam Group), acquired Darling Downs Pulse Crop business Mt Tyson Seeds. Originally established by Riverina Stockfeeds in the early 1980s, the business was subsequently purchased by the O’Reilly family before being bought by Queensland Cotton. This AQIS certified pulse processing facility is based at Mt Tyson, 40 kms west of Toowoomba in the heart of Queensland's Darling Downs, specialising in contracting, processing and marketing pulse crops, predominantly mungbeans and chickpeas.

Other parts of the pulse business include wholesaling and retailing pulse sowing seed as well as providing marketing options to growers for other grains such as sorghum and wheat.

Mt Tyson Seeds draws pulses from a wide geographical area, stretching from the Central Queensland Highlands, to Roma in the west, through the Darling Downs and border areas, south as far as Warren and west to Walgett in New South Wales.

Growers are offered a range of tailored contract options including direct delivery to the Mt Tyson facility or third party seasonal storage. The Mt Tyson facility has an extensive silo complex with storage for over 10,000 tonne of product. All bulk storage is in the form of aerated silos ranging from 100 tonne to 200 tonne.

Via its dedicated pulses team, Queensland Cotton has steadily developed the Mt Tyson Seeds brand into a leading grass-roots accumulator of pulses from the farm gate and supplying direct to consumer markets on the Sub Continent and Asia. In addition, Mt Tyson Seeds is a supplier to leading Australian based trading exporters on a delivered container terminal basis.

Our pulses business is also involved in the Australian southern pulse markets trading lentils, dun peas and faba beans directly into export markets. These pulses are accumulated from farmers and sold also on a direct container terminal basis. This part of the business is experiencing high growth with increased demand from international consumers.

In late 2011 Queensland Cotton acquired Selected Pulse Foods Pty Ltd; a processing facility located at Pittsworth Qld, which specialises in processing and marketing pulse products.  http://www.selectedpulsefoods.com.au
